Those are the suburbs we work in most often rather than a boundary. We cover roughly 50km around Newcastle, so if you are just outside the list it is still worth a call, and we will tell you straight away if you are too far out to be worth your while.
The same roof fails differently here
Half an hour apart in this region is a genuinely different environment for a roof, and it changes what we look at first and what materials should go back on. It is worth asking any roofer quoting your job which of these they think they are dealing with.
On the coast
Stockton, Merewether, Bar Beach, Redhead and Swansea. Salt air goes after the metal long before the roof surface: valley irons, flashings, gutter brackets and fasteners corrode first, and steel needs a grade specified for how close to breaking surf the house actually sits.
Around the lake
Warners Bay, Toronto, Belmont and Cardiff. More trees and more shade, so the problems are organic: gum leaves packing gutters and valleys, moss and lichen holding moisture on the southern faces, and blockages that back water up under the tiles.
The older suburbs
Hamilton, New Lambton, Mayfield and Newcastle itself. Plenty of pre-war and post-war housing with original terracotta, discontinued tile profiles that have to be matched from salvage, and ridge capping bedded in rigid mortar that has been cracking for decades.
What we do in your area
Pressure clean, re-bed and re-point the ridge capping, replace broken tiles, then a coating system. Typically buys another 10 to 15 years out of a sound tile roof.
